Who is Carl C. Scott
As a licensed Psychotherapist, I bring a unique blend of personal experience and professional expertise to my practice.
Growing up in the Bronx, I was exposed to the harsh realities of trauma, violence, and drugs at a young age. These experiences ignited my passion for helping at-risk youth navigate the complexities of life.
My journey in the field of mental health began at the age of 13 when I immersed myself in various programs and initiatives aimed at supporting families and promoting mental well-being. This early exposure laid the foundation for my career path, leading me to pursue higher education as a nontraditional student.
I embarked on my academic journey at Savannah State University, where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Behavior Analysis. Continuing my pursuit of knowledge, I obtained my Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Bowie State University, honing my skills to be a more excellent clinician.
I serve as the Program Director of the BEST Kids Mentoring program, providing comprehensive support through career readiness, life skills training, and therapeutic 1:1 mentoring. Additionally, I founded the BOSS program (Brothers Overcoming Struggles for Success), which promotes mental health awareness among males through psychoeducation.
In my private practice, I work with individual adults facing a myriad of challenges, including anxiety, depression, and emotional dysregulation. My approach is rooted in Adlerian Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Behavior Counseling, tailored to each client's unique needs.
As a Certified Trauma Professional, I specialize in assisting clients with complex trauma disorders, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and other trauma-related issues. My goal as a therapist is to create a safe and culturally competent space for self-discovery, growth, and healing.
Outside of my clinical work, I am a published author, TEDx speaker, and advocate for at-risk youth. My book, "A Changing Man," offers practical tools and insights for breaking free from toxicity and fostering personal growth. Through my TEDx talk, "Losing Assumptions," I challenge societal perceptions of at-risk youth, advocating for empathy and understanding.
Driven by a deep sense of altruism, I believe in the power of sharing and teaching as catalysts for communal upliftment. My mantra, "If one person can eat, so can two. And if two people can eat, so can four," underscores my commitment to creating a world where every individual can thrive.
With warmth and authenticity, I approach each interaction with a genuine desire to empower others toward emotional well-being and personal fulfillment. I often say, "I'm just happy to be here, ya know?!"
